LOM Géofon first impressions

A few days ago I received the new Géofon (geophone) from Bratislava-based microphone makers LOM Audio. LOM has made a name for themselves recently for making microphones that greatly outperform their low prices.

I’ve made a few initial recordings out in my front yard, mounting the microphone both with the included spike, to stick in the ground; and the included magnet, which did some amazing things when stuck to the side of my mailbox:

I’m excited about the range of possibilities suggested by this non-seismic use of a tool designed for, among other things, seismic measurements.
